New amplifier from Geoff Genzler (ex Genz Benz) with big, open sound, two way adjustable pre-shape, three band active eq with sweepable mid, aux input for your music and headphone output for rehearsing. One of the most useful features is the 2.7Ω switch on the back enabling the amp to run 3 x 8Ω cabinets for larger stages and higher volume for added versatility.

Introducing the latest MAGELLAN® series bass amplifier, the MAGELLAN® 350.   Along with our larger MAGELLAN® 800, the MG-350 represents the pinnacle in the next generation in compact, lightweight, high-output, versatile, bass amplification.

The MAGELLAN® 350 is the little brother of the larger MAGELLAN® 800 but only in relation to its smaller compact size.  The MG-350 meets the same stringent design parameters for form, function, fit and finish as our larger MAGELLAN® 800.  The feature set and 350 watt output power level of this tiny amplifier make it a “big boy” in its amplifier class.   As well, the MG-350 delivers exactly what players have come to expect from the GENZLER® design team -- performance, versatility and reliability.

From natural, pristine, transparent reproduction of the bass instrument to classic, vintage harmonic textures, the MG-350 provides the tonal pallet needed to cover all of the bassist’s amplifier requirements and is ideal for electric or upright bassists.

Design features Include:

  1. Clean Channel –

    1. Pristine and Articulate

  2. Dual-Curve Variable Contour Circuitry

    1. Curve A -- Classic to Modern -- Mid Scoop Curve

    2. Curve B -- Thicker to Vintage -- Low-Mid Bump w/Tapered Top End

  3. Active 3 Band EQ w/Parametric Mid Control

  4. Signal Mute Switch

  5. Thermal Sensing Variable Speed Fan Cooling

  6. Full Featured XLR Direct Output Interface

  7. 2.67 Ohm Min. Total Load

  8. Output:  175W/8 Ohms,  350W/4 Ohms and 350W/2.67 Ohms

  9. Dimensions: 9”W X 9.83”D X 2.63”H

  10. Weight:  3.5 Lbs.

PREAMP – all solid state analog design with integrated soft clip circuitry.

  1. INPUT– 1Meg ohm input impedance

  2. CHANNEL OVERVIEW – Voiced to provide natural, pristine, transparent reproduction of the bass instrument.  The circuitry consists of an FET feedback type variable gain circuit that provides wide range, continuously variable gain for use with a wide range of instrument pick-ups and preamps.

  3. CONTOUR -- continuously variable control of 2 vastly different response curves. In either CURVE position, when the SHAPE control is all the way off (CCW) the response curve is completely FLAT.

    1. Curve A (Blue) -- a variable pre-shaped curve that boosts lows and highs while simultaneously cutting mids.  The slopes are fairly gentle which keep the tone shaping very musical.  This curve covers a wide range of sounds from flat to classic to modern depending on the position of the SHAPE control.

    2. Curve B (Amber) -- a variable pre-shaped curve with attenuated high mids and highs, a low mid bump, and a slight roll-off of the lowest bass frequencies. Again, the slopes are fairly gentle which keep the tone shaping very musical. This curve is intended to provide sounds in the range of vintage amps and vintage cabinets that do not have tweeters.

  4. ACTIVE EQUALIZATION – The MAGELLAN® 350 contains an active 3 band equalizer with a sweepable parametric mid-range frequency control.

    1. Bass   +/- 15dB boost/cut shelving curve with a corner frequency of 75Hz

    2. Mid      +/- 15dB boost/cut of the variable mid frequency selected

    3. Freq     Variable mid frequency from 150Hz-3kHz

    4. Treble   +/- 15dB boost/cut shelving curve with a corner frequency of 6kHz

  5. POWER AMP – The MAGELLAN® 350 uses a state of the art, class D power amplifier design and a high frequency auto-sensing universal switch-mode power supply (SMPS) to achieve unprecedented high performance and lightweight packaging. There are no Voltage Switches to change or jumpers to move. This SMPS senses the line voltage from 100-240 Volts and automatically configures itself.

  1. XLR Direct Output –

    1. Mic / Line Switch

    2. Pre / Post EQ Switch

    3. Ground Lift Switch

  2. Aux Input

  3. Head Phones

  4. Dual Speakon® Speaker Outputs

  5. Impedance Selector Switch for 8, 4 or 2.67 ohm operation

  1. Power Output: 175W/8 Ohms, 350W/4 Ohms and 350W/2.67 Ohms

  2. Minimum Speaker Load: 2.67 Ohms

  3. Operating Power condition: 100 - 240V, 50/60 Hz

  4. Dimensions: 2.63”H X 9”W X 9.83”D (67mm H x 228.6mm W x 249.8mm D)

  5. Weight: 3.5 LBS ( 1.75 Kg)

New Genzler Heavy Duty amplifier gig bag

Customer feedback:

Hi Mark and Team

Thank you for the great service the other day.

The Genler 350 10-2 combo is living up to my high expectations. I used it for the first gig last night with the Rutland Big Band and it coped without breaking sweat. Overall volume was at around 25% so there was plenty in reserve against a 15-piece band with PA. And this was without the extension cab which is only going to make things better.

The mids were sweet and clear and brought out the best in my NXT EUB. The reported piezo “nasties” just do not seem to be present with this cab and I could lift the mid frequencies to give clarity in a difficult, reverb-heavy room.

I thought the smaller cab might be a touch bass light. Wrong!  I had to turn the bass down in this particular venue; this small box throws out loads of low-end.

The band told me how good the bass sounded. They have never commented before apart from "too loud" or "too quiet". Success!

It is early days but may I humbly suggest that every EUB or jazz double bass player needs to try this combo.

I have mentioned EUB. It also works really well with bass guitar, noticeably bringing out the growl from a Jazz bass. The contour control on the Magellan makes sense to me now too. Smiley face EQ (contour A) or old-school (contour B) gets away from the hi-fi response and gives a lot of options.

100% happy. Thank you.

Hi Mark and the team,

Just a few words of praise for the Genzler 350 amplifier I bought yesterday.  This was bought as a back-up amp. for my Genz-Benz Streamliner 900 which is superb.  The Genzler 350 is a lovely little amp with plenty of power and it is difficult not to get a good sound.  The Contour A and B facilities are both useable for good sounds and all the control adjustments are pleasingly subtle but effective.  I just need to make sure that the two amps don’t see each other as there could be some rivalry going on when I am not looking!!

I have sent this email also to Genzler amps.

Take care all,

Glynn Murray
