These basses are custom orders for Bass Direct and each is individually hand built by acclaimed luthier, Carey Nordstrand, in California USA. Less than 100 Nordstrand basses are produced each year.

The Nordstrand, which had received favourable comments up to this point, maintained its positive streak by showing just what a ‘super-jazz’ is all about. Having played many examples of this format before, I was very impressed with this bass in every department. All the elements are well matched to produce a great all-round bass. All the archetypal Jazz tones are here; clear, powerful and punchy with an articulate bottom-end that extends to the low-B string also. Adrian was particularly taken with this bass’s performance in passive mode, commenting that it “sounded more like a Precision than a Precision itself”.

Bass Gear Magazine gave a vJ5 4.2 out of 5 for "in hand" testing and 4.5 out of 5 for "on bench" testing.

Hey Mark I love this bass, I have spent a long time waiting and boy was it worth it. This has to be the ultimate Jazz bass. It is easy to play, lightweight, and has a huge growly tone! It sounds great through my classic 450 head and Bergantino cab.

This really is in a different league to anything I have played before, I guess the old saying is true, you get what you pay for.
