The new Streamliner™ design from Genz Benz is taking the lightweight amp design into a new arena, using the superb class D technology perfected by Genz and combining a new preamp section.. The 300 volt All Tube Class A preamp design is driven by three 12AX7 preamp tubes utilising six gain stages. The preamp design features an intuitive and highly effective tone network which is a unique blend of a modified passive Baxandall network for the bass and treble along with an active tube driven mid filter with selectable mid frequencies. The versatile all tube preamp exudes a fat and rich tone that remains articulate. It can be used to simply add warmth to your natural tone or it can be dialled in to provide a wide range of natural tube overdrive.

Along with our preamp design that rivals that of many classic tube amplifiers, the STREAMLINER™ amps also features our proprietary 3 Dimensional Power Management analogue technology. Our 3DPM™ adds heft and girth to each individual note, while enhancing the amplifiers responsiveness and headroom. It provides the dynamic and 3 dimensional tone and feel of an all tube power amp design.

With its solid extruded aluminium panels, CNC machined solid billet aluminium faceplate and smooth-radius edges the STREAMLINER™ 900 chassis emanates the ruggedness and strength of a world-class touring machine. This brushed aluminium chassis is finished in an anodised Tungsten finish.

The powerhouse behind the Streamliner™ is a Class D amplifier and SMPS module, enhanced with our Patent Pending P.H.A.T. (Proprietary Heat Abatement Technology) topology. This delivers robust and reliable, high output performance in a tremendously compact and convenient package.

Simply put, this new design offers a more streamlined approach to finding your voice, yet it still carries forth the GENZ BENZ reputation for performance, reliability and innovation.

Hi Mark,

Many thanks again for recommending the STM900 to me. I had two quite different gigs over the weekend which gave me an opportunity to test it with my Berg HT/EX 112’s.

The first was a bar gig with around 300 people with an in-house sound engineer. I played a Nordy vP5 (wearing flats) which the STM900 seems made for. It was easy to get a great sound on stage and FOH, which was detailed, and warm with plenty of punch. A very enjoyable experience!

The second was a charity fundraising ball with around 400 guests in a large hotel function suite. I found that I barely needed to run through the PA as the STM900 had plenty in the tank to take it all in its stride without ever being boomy or flabby – absolutely wonderful. I again used my Nordy vP5. The guitarist and drummer were both raising their eyebrows at how something the size and weight of a laptop could sound so big!

I look forward to checking out the Berg CN212!

Best regards,

Paul

Hi Mark,

Just a line to say thanks and how very impressed I am with both amps. (Indecision is an expensive ailment!!)

I have used/tried practically every top brand over the years and the sound, tonal palate and value for money of these GB amps is unsurpassable.

Coupled up with my Vanderkleys 112MNTs both GB amps are absolutely stunning. On balance and after a couple of hours twiddling (as you quite rightly said) I think the flexibility of the Shuttle Max is giving it the edge for my personal taste. The mix of the FET & Tube channels is just phenomenal.

Thinking of adding a 210MNT to the arsenal, when I have off loaded a bit more gear.

Thanks again for your help and forbearance.

Best Regards

Its been 3 weeks since i purchased the amp & cab, i was fortunate in that i had Mark & the shop to myself for a couple of hrs on that day. Once he knew what sort of player i was & the music i played he gave me great advice. I have used the kit 2-3 times a week since then and have been very pleased with it. I have even started using my 71' P Bass again because through this kit it sounds wicked! thanks again Mark

Took my Bergantino CN212 that I picked up on Friday to rehearsal tonight. It was truly epic. Easily the best cab I've ever heard or played through. Thanks for sorting me out with the cab Mark and thanks for your invaluable assistance. Happy chappy in B90! :-)

Submitted on the 11th March 2013 by Paul who purchased a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 amplifier and  Bergantino HD112 cabinets

Hi Mark,

I thought I should give you an update on the STM900 / HD112 combination I bought from you a few weeks ago. I’ve used it at home (it’s become my practice rig!), live accompanying an acoustic guitar, and at rehearsal with acoustic / drums. It’s a great combination – and I can’t believe how much clarity it has even when run very quietly. The sound carries so much more ‘weight’ than I was expecting, but along with the weight is clarity so that every little string rattle is picked up, and low slides just sound incredible.

Just out of curiosity, I took the Streamliner into my rock band rehearsal and ran it into my old Trace Elliot 4x10 cabs. It performed really well, has more ‘punch’ than my valve amp, and my guitar player actually preferred it. I still prefer my big valve amp in that situation, but it’s brilliant to have the option. Paired with a Berg 6x10 I think the STM would sound incredible.

I also ran it live where the venue provided (and insisted I used) an old Laney 2x10, and that highlighted just how much difference a new, modern cabinet makes.

Thank you for spending the time with me. I left with a fantastic, upgradeable system that’s small and light enough to be stolen by a small Vietnamese child on a scooter.

I also learned a bunch of things about bass kit in general.

Cheers.

In the words of Arnie…”I’ll be back!”

Finally got to try out the Streamliner 600 with the 2 Focus 1x12s. Absolutely brilliant.

Thanks for your advice.

Hi,
I parted company with my 500 watt Ampeg setup and went with the 600 Genz Benz Streamliner and one 210 Focus cab to start with. Another Genz cab will follow shortly to max the full 600 watts.
I added a spare 15 inch cab I already had because I knew I needed volume to spare and played it last night at a gig with a drummer who was partially deaf and didn't hold back at all with power. I was able to hear every note, crisp and clear above the drummer and a loud guitarist without pushing it too hard. The 10 inch speakers are so much better than the 15s I have been playing previously, the clarity and snap to each note is so reassuring.
I had read all about this gear and it is all true.
If I had known it was so much fun I would have done it much sooner.
Thanks to Mark at Bass Direct for sound advice and patience. As always, very helpful.

Hi Mark

Tried the Streamliner the other night at rehearsal and was nothing short of amazing, I was worried it wouldn’t cut the mustard against the tone from my Mesa Walkabout but it did with ease. The sound from the streamliner is different but in a really good way, its much more rounded and the balance across the strings is much better or flatter compared to the Mesa which in the mix sounds fantastic. I usually need a compressor to flatten the sound but with the streamliner I set everything flat plugged in and played all night, the only tweaking was from curiosity to see what else it could do but the sound I like for finger funk was perfect from the off.

Thanks for your guidance

Tim

Firstly a big thank you Mark for his advise and absolute refreshing view to promoting modern & cutting edge bass gear.

I had my first full gig with my Genz Benz and Vanderkleys last weekend and the difference was amazing... the clarity, the tone, the responsiveness and the portability. My Alembic always sounded good through the old SWRs but now has a new lease of life with such an improved sound!

Coming to see Mark has opened my eyes and ears to how much things have changed from my goliath days.... a worthwhile and inspiring (if costly) visit.

Hi Mark

I’ve been meaning to write but not got around to it until now…..

Just to say I am delighted with the rig I bought from you in September (Genz Benz Streamliner 900 and 2 x Vanderkley 112MNT). I’ve also just added an Auralex GRAMMA.

The sound is simply stunning. Tons of headroom, unbelievable clarity, warm smooth sub, punchy and dynamic in the mids when required. I’m particularly impressed with the bottom end response especially as the physical size and weight of the cabs is so small. I play a 4 string and use an octaver to get down low for Stevie Wonder stuff in Eb…..the sound is huge and the rig handles it without flinching!

You were right about this combination. The Streamliner is in a class of its own……the valves provide such warmth and tone. And the Vanderkleys are all about hifi. Perfect!

I might look for a new 5 string fretted bass at some point and will definitely come over again when I get to that stage. And I recommend your shop to all my friends for great gear and knowledge.

Regards

Submitted on the 30th September 2012 by Darren who purchased a Genz Benz Streamliner 600 amplifier and Genz Benz Uber 212 cabinet

Hi Mark.

Thanks for the help and advice you gave both before and during checking out the GB amp/cabs.

Having shopped in many, many music shops over the years it was a pleasure to meet someone who was knowledgeable, welcoming and amazingly helpful.

The Streamliner is an awesome piece of technology ( so much "ooommph" in so compact a package ) and the Uber bass 212 sounds simply immense. The perfect combination for my playing needs.

Now to start saving up for a Mike Lull T-bird to go with my Gibson LOL.

Submitted on the 28th September 2012 by Phil who purchased a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 amplifier and  Bergantino HD210 cabinets and a Dingwall 5 string bass

Hey Mark,

It's been a while since I bought this great rig from you, but I thought I'd leave the review until I'd gigged it a few times.

All I can say is this combination of Dingwall, Genz Benz and Bergantino (the Holy Trinity), produces the best sound I've ever got from any rig, at any price! There's so much headroom - more than I'll ever need - and so clear and warm without being muddy or harsh. Also, my fingers aren't blistered by the end of the gig!

I get great comments from band members and audience alike, saying they can actually hear what I'm playing.
I've since bought from you a Berg EX112 to go with the 210 - brilliant addition.

Thanks again for the advice Mark,

Phil

A quick feedback about my purchase.

Those Vanderkley cabs are amazing. Thank you for the advice and patience when I was trying the set up.

I just practiced with my band and was smiling all night long. I could hear everything I was playing for the first time, with highs and lows totally balanced.

Also, I brought the cabs to the practice room without breaking a sweat :-)

This is going to keep me (and my drummer) happy for a long time!

Hello Mark,
having had chance to put the 'Mini Rig' through it's paces, I couldn't be more pleased. After many years of lugging various 'Anvil' heavy high power amps & 'Monolith' speaker cabinets, it was a joy to stroll into the venue with my 'Man-Bag' Amp & Bass, followed by My Wife with a 'Berg' in each hand - Genius!
The Sound with the Jazz is classic Old School - mid range 'Honk' & chest compressing low end.
A Wonderous place you have there, a veritable Tardis of all things Bass, infact...A Great Day Out For All The Family.
Once again, thanks for the advice, and I'll be in-touch when I need that Corporate Gig Bling Bass!
Best Wishes,
David (Llandudno)

Hi Mark

Reference the STM900 amp and MNT112 Vanderkley Cabs purchased earlier this week. Had our fist chance to use the gear last night. As a sixties traditionalist you may of gathered I was a unsure of changing to small, compact lightweight bass gear. What can I say, the sound, tone and power provided with those little gems is amazing, I have never heard such definition and tone from such small insignificant little boxes, for the first time in 45 years I could hear every note I played (not necessary a good thing).

Thanks for the guidance, let me know when the small bags are available for the Amp.

Best Regards

Thanks for your patience and advice Mark. The Steinberger has opened my eyes to the fact that anything is possible.

My mates thought that I was taking the mick when I turned up with the EA micro and Vanderkley 112 until I plugged in and started playing. After many years I can now actually hear what I am playing with total clarity. Once again thanks a million. I will certainly recommend you to anyone whp wants to sort out some gear.

Hi Mark

What can I say that hasn’t already about Dingwall? What an awesome bass, I tried several combustions and an ABZ, before finally settling on an AB1 and right now I’m loving it. Sorry its taken a while to get back to you, been trying to get my combination back together again. Three excellent components making up my rig, a Bergantino AE210, a Genz Benz Streamliner, and a Dingwall AB1. Together an awesome sound.

Thank you so much for your help.

I was initially looking at the Markbass tube amp, Mark suggested I try the Genz Benz as an alternative. Having tried the MB tube I was unimpressed, tried the F1 and liked it. I also tried the Genz Benz Streamliner, for me it was so much better, giving me a lovely warm sound straight out the box.
